Top 5 Vegan Friendly Restaurants in Rome, Italy

Planning a trip to Rome? In a city filled with wonderful vegan options, I've picked my top 5 vegan restaurants and go-to snack places that you should definitely check out while visiting this historic city.

I was lucky enough to spend five weeks in Rome, giving me the opportunity to check out a range of eateries. While I didn't get to go to every single one (I'd have needed a lifetime), I did manage to get to quite a few. Out of these, here are my faves! Have any other suggestions? Post them in the comments; I'd love to hear from you.

Prima La Materia

I ate here way more often than I'd like to admit. Just around the corner from our Airbnb, this beautiful little pizza cafe was an almost daily treat for us while in Rome. Fully vegetarian with a great range of vegan options, I tried a variety of unique but delicious vegan options from this quaint pizzeria, including;

Pumpkin and onion pizza

Pumpkin and hummus pizza

Olive and tomato pizza

Potato pizza

Carrot and purple cauliflower pizza

Carrot and potato pizza

And so much more!

BUDDY Roma

My next favourite Rome eatery is BUDDY Roma, another entirely vegetarian and vegan place in the heart of Rome. I ate here a few times trying a broccoli and cauliflower pizza with beetroot hummus (delicious), a hummus and vegetable sandwich and the vegan burger brunch which came with a smoothie, a coffee and a brownie for dessert. I was officially stuffed!

Note, there is no extremely nearby Metro, so be prepared to either take a bus or an easy 20-minute walk from Trevi Fountain to reach this place.

Grezzo Raw Chocolate

This place is incredible! Fully raw, vegan, gluten and lactose-free; Grezzo really does cater for everyone. I had the best chocolate I have ever had in my life here, and can confirm the slightly high price tag is definitely worth it. I had a range of truffles, but my favourite was the creamy hazelnut truffle. I also tried the ice cream here and can highly recommend giving this a go too.

Aromaticus

Conveniently located just a couple of stores down from my last suggestion, Aromaticus is a great place for a savoury lunch stop before heading over to Grezzo for dessert. This cute little cafe has a variety of vegan options available and also has a small store at the front selling a mix of different plants. They also sell a few vegan goodies such as hot sauce, jams etc. All vegan options are clearly marked on the menu and include; a burrito, a budget, couscous, salad and more.

I had the burger, orange carrot and lime juice and the banana bread. I'd highly recommend both the burger and the juice, but I wasn't a huge fan of the banana bread; it was quite wet, and the texture was strange. Save yourself for dessert at Grezzo down the road!

Vitaminas24

I had a few takeaway dishes from Vitaminas24 while in Rome, but I never took a trip to the actual restaurant/cafe and so can't comment on the interior or location. Vitaminas24 is a small, healthfood bistro with a focus on organic and bio food. I loved their hummus and dip starter and both the wrap and burger I tried (more than once!). They also have a range of vegan salads, smoothies and desserts; I highly recommend the apple and chocolate cake.

Note, this restaurant isn't fully vegan but clearly labels vegan options on their menu.
