Eating Vegan in Puerto Escondido, Mexico
Navigating Mexico as a vegan doesn’t have to be difficult. Do your research, get learning all of important foodie terms you need to know (huevos, carne, pescado, vegans etc) and eating vegan in Mexico should be fairly straight forward.
I’ve recently spent a month in Puerto Escondido and today I’m bringing you a list of the top vegan eateries in Puerto Escondido.
Note; there is no UberEats or similar in Puerto Escondido at this time, however, some restaurants offer delivery if you oder via WhatsApp. I have included the WhatsApp contact details for the restaurants I have them for.
Papa Tots
The cute little vegetarian snackeria is conveniently located right in the heart of central Puerto Escondido. Their specialty is vegetarian and vegan friend potato balls (vegan options are clearly marked on the menu). These little balls of deliciousness can come alone with a variety of sources, as a burrito or in a salad. For such a simple food, these are absolutely delicious. I highly recommend giving the vegan burrito a try - it’s definitely my favourite thing on the menu.

Chillicon Valley
Handmade food delivered straight to my door? Yes please! Chillicon Valley is a 100% vegan, delivery only food service operating in Puerto Escondido. They have a small set menu with only a handful of items but every single one is incredibly delicious and super affordable. It certainly ticks all the boxes for me!
My favourite things here are the chili con soya, sandwiches and the chocolate brownie.

Elephant Garden
If you’ve done any research into eating vegan in Puerto Escondido already, you’ve probably stumbled across Elephant Garden before. This is a small but popular restaurant located in Santa María. They offer some options for vegans including an avocado bagel, Buddha bowl and plant milks for drinks.

Señor Salud
This next place isn’t a restaurant but a small local shop selling organic fruits and vegetables as well as grains and seeds and natural body products. A trip here might not be for everyone, but if you’re planning on staying in Puerto Escondido for more than a week or so and plan on doing some of your own cooking, you’ll want to head here to stock up on supplies. There are a couple of large supermarkets in the area too but this local tienda stocks organic local produce and some prepared food-stuff made in house too.

Holy Moly
A unique restaurant offering one fixed price vegan dinner every evening (note, they are closed on Sundays), plus drinks and deserts. 100% vegan. 100% a surprise. Simply show up and grab whatever is on the menu that day; it’s guaranteed to be delicious.

Losodeli
In the heart of central Puerto Escondido next to Casa Losodeli is their small 100% vegetarian cafe. This place offers a few vegan options including breakfast dishes, pizza, salads and smoothies.
Note; some of the smoothies here are made with honey. Just ask the staff to omit this for you to make the smoothie vegan.
Casa Losodeli also has a small co-working space if you’re working and travelling at the same time!
